The head of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association in Kim Boi District, Mr. Quach Duc Quy said: Visiting and giving gifts to the lonely, helpless elderly with difficult circumstances, the elderly from 80 years and older will be promoting; the longevity ceremony for the elderly from 70 to 100 years old and over 100 years old has been arganizize on the occasion of the Lunar New Year. The associations at all levels have regularly coordinated with the sector of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to review and make a list to consider the elderly who ảe eligible for the social allowances and protection. They have coordinated with the health sector to make the records of health management, to organize periodical health checks, to examine and provide free medicine for thousands of the members. They have also been promoting propaganda and raising awareness about the organization of the Elderly Association in the Party committee and government. At the same time, the attention of appropriate authorities, society and people in the emulation movement "The Old age – The Bright example” has been attracting.
Accordingly, Associations at all levels in the district have actively advised the Party committee and the local authorities to create favorable conditions for the physical facilities for the elderly to practice. Up to now, there have been health clubs in 17 out of the 17 communes and the town in the district; there have been 3-4 soft volleyball clubs in each commune, attracting the participation of 13,200 members of the elderly and residents in the community. Additionally, in order to contribute to the construction of the villages, the cultural residential areas and to preserve and promote the national cultural identity, the members of the elderly in the district not only go ahead, being the great examples in maintaining their healthy lifestyle and habits, savings and organizing the traditional activities such as beating gongs, Dum and Rang Thuong singing … Especially, in response to the campaign "All people unite to build the cultural life in the residential areas”, 98 % of the households with elderly people have been recognized as the cultural families every year. Many households have won the title of the typical and outstanding cultural families and they have been commended and rewarded. Responding to the movement that the elderly participating in socio-economic development, in the whole district, there are 70% of the elderly participating in labor production in the field of agriculture, forestry, business and service, contributing to the development of the family economy.
For example, Mr. Bui Van Huong (Du Sang commune) has been developing the economy by growing citrus fruit trees; Mr. Dinh Cong Mieng (Dong Bac commune) has been developing the forest economy; Mr. Bui Van Rua (Kim Son commune) has been developing economy from growing Doi, raising goats... with an income of from 200 million VND to 1 billion VND a year, creating jobs for many local workers with the income of about 3 - 5 billion VND a person every month.
From the emulation movement that the elderly participating in building the Party and government, contributing to maintaining the social security, a lot of members have actively participated in the social work, the work of the Party, the government and the mass organizations in the locality. They include the People's Inspection Committee, the self-governing security groups. In which, there are 158 elderly leaders who are the members of the reconciliation team in the hamlets and the residential areas.
Thanks to the good care and the promotion of the role of the elderly, the emulation movement of "The Old age – The Bright example” has effectively been launching and maintaining, the role and position of the Elderly Association in Kim Boi District has increasingly been enhancing for the family and the society, attracting the participation of more elderly. Up till now, there have been more than 14,800 members in the district’s Elderly Association, accounting for over 95% of the total number of elderly people in the district.
