(HBO) – Students from Hoa Binh province contributed two out of seven gold medals bagged by Vietnam at the 2023 World Inventory Creativity Olympic held in the Republic of Korea from July 28-29.

Leaders of the provincial Department of Education and Training congratulate the two teams of students on their outstanding performance at WICO 2023.

WICO is an annual competition established and organised by the Korean University Invention Association (KUIA) and the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA). Its jury includes leading scientists worldwide who give their assessments based on international criteria. The competition is opened for high school students with innovative ideas, and technological products.

This year’s event, in its 12th edition, attracted over 1,200 students from 22 countries, including the US, Australia and Canada.

Hoa Binh sent two groups of students to the competition, with one from the Industry High School led by teacher Bui Thi Nhu Quynh with the project "Smart floating houses to resist climate change." This team comprises five students - Duong Hong Quang, Dao Huy Tuan, Pham Duc Cuong, Phan Le Hung, and Le Minh Ngoc (from Hoang Van Thu High School for Gifted Students). The other is from the Ly Tu Trong Secondary School team led by teacher Duong Tien Tho with the project "Using Artificial Intelligence to automatically classify waste." The team also gathers five members - Khuong Ngoc Anh Dung, Phung Manh Dung, Tran Duy Bao Son, Bui Hong Hai, and Do Duy Minh.

Their products were highly evaluated by the organisers and the jury for their creativity and feasibility.

The achievements by Hoa Binh students at WICO 2023, as well as other prestigious international competitions, have confirmed that STEM education and scientific research in schools have been on the right track.

The WICO result serves as important motivation for the provincial Department of Education and Training to continue promoting STEM education in schools./.
