(HBO) - Implemented from December 2021, the "Godmother" program has been actively mobilized by the Women's Unions at all levels in the province to mobilize the officials, the Union’s members, the organizations and the individuals to respond. With enthusiasm, the Women's Union has taken many forms of support, received sponsorship and developed appropriate procedures to sponsor, care for and nurture the orphaned children due to Covid-19 pandemics and orphans in difficult circumstances.


The Women's Union of Thong Nhat Ward (Hoa Binh City) has cooperated with the Women's Union of Group 6 to launch the model "Godmother connects with love". The model has accepted to sponsor 2 orphans until they are 18 years old. 


Recently, the Provincial Women's Union organized a conference to honor good officers at the grassroots level – The leaders of the typical models in the community - Provincial folk dance exchanges and the program "Godmother - spreading love”. The representatives of the organizations and individuals have supported the "Godmother” program with more than 625 million VND. In particular, 34 children have been sponsored, of which the appropriate authoriteis, the organizations and individuals have been sponsored 22 children with the amount of support with the ammount of more than 510 millin VND until they are 18. The total amount of money to support and sponsor children at the program is more than 1.14 billion VND.

Ms. Hoang Thi Duyen, the Chairman of the Provincial Women's Union says: Recognizing the importance and great significance of the "Godmother” program, the Union has issued the guidelines to implement at all levels. The union has colobartaed with the Deparrtment of Labour, Invalids and Social Afairs to review, synthesize and make a list of ỏphans due to Covid-10 and other causes. By May 20, 2023, there have been 3,043 orphans in the province, of which there are 2,935 orphans whose father or mother has died, there are 108 orphans who parents have died, and there are 15 orphans due to Covid-19.

From the actual data, the Women's Unions at all levels have selected the form of support and sponsorship and built an appropriate sponsorship process; they have been well performing the role of connecting between the "godmother” and the children, receiving and allocating the resources to support, care and nurture. Thereby, it helps the children to develop comprehensively in the family and community environment. Up to now, the Women's Union at district and grassroots levels has received and mobilized to sponsor 223 orphans in extremely difficult circumstances (15 orphaned whoe parents have died due to Covid-19); each child receives from 200 - 500 thousand VND a month or they are given savings books, scholarships by year, period or until the age of 18.
To make the program meaningful as the name "Godmother”, the Unions at all levels not only support materially but also mentally, they regularly visit, help and guide the children to practice life skills so that they don't feel overwhelmed or lonely, and always be confident in life. Besides the monthly support, up to now, all levels of the Unions have visited and given 135 gifts to the orphans under the program with an amount of over 118.9 million VND; organizing birthday at the family for 15 children.

Many collectives and individuals have well implemented the program including The Women's Union of the Provincial Public Security advises the Party Committee of the Provincial Public Security to mobilize contributions from officials in the sector; organizing a conference to implement the program, sponsoring 21 orphans with a support level of 500,000 VND a child every month. Lac Son District’s Women's Union has directed and guided the Unions at all levels to implement the programs, mobilizing the organizations, businesses and individuals to help the orphans in extremely difficult circumstances, so far 46 children have been sponsored at the locality. In addition to the monthly cash support, they have helped build 4 houses, donated bicycles, necessities, etc. to the children with a total value of over 327.4 million VND.

In addition, many godmothers have directly been taking for children's material and spiritual life. For instance,  Ms. Hoang Thi Chung, a member of the Women's Union in Bo Song village, Ngoc Luong commune (Yen Thuy) has sponsored and taken care of an orphan in the locality with an in-kind support worth 450 thousand VND a month. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, a member of the Women's Union from Zone 6, Luong Son town (Luong Son), sponsors 5 orphans in a family, she often helps and guides them the basic skills in life and study...

In order for all orphans to be sponsored, in the coming time, the Women's Unions at all levels will continue to effectively implement the program; well performing the role of mobilizing and connecting the organizations and individuals who are local officials and members to take care of and nurture orphans together with their families and the representatives for the substitute care. It is necessary to review and survey the subjects to ensure the criteria of "sponsorship”, timely help, right people, right objects, avoiding omissions. 18 years old... It is suggested taking caring for and supporting the sponsored children until they are 18…
