(HBO) – Thanks to the diverse and multidimensional support from social credit, poor and near-poor households as well as policy beneficiaries in Hoa Binh have accessed capital for economic development, increasing their income and improving their living conditions.

like many other households in mountainous commune of Chi Dao in Lac Son
district, the family of Bui Thi Son in Kho village once faced a shortage of
clean water for their daily activities and had to take water from the stream in
the nearby mountain, which was an unstable supply source.
In 2022, thanks to a soft loan of 12 million VND (489 USD) from the Vietnam
Bank for Social Policy (VBSP)’s branch in Hoa Binh, Son’s family managed to
drill a well and build their own water tank.
Son said that since then, her family have had a stable water supply source
serving their daily life and breeding activities. "Previously, we had also
accessed a soft loan for economic development, which was of great significance
to our family,” said Son.
Son’s family is among more than 400 households in Chi Dao commune that have
accessed policy credit for economic development. Dinh Cong Thai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Chi Dao said that the
VBSP’s diverse credit programmes have basically met the capital demand of poor
and policy beneficiary households in the locality. However, the demand has
still been high, he said.
Along with loans for sustainable development and water supply and rural
sanitation and a number of new credit programmes, over the years, the VBSP
branch in Hoa Binh has focused on providing loans for production, which has
benefited thousands of local households who got capital to recover and promote
production after COVID-19 pandemic.
Le Quoc Khanh, a local of Thong Nhat area in Hang Tram township of Yen Thuy
said that thanks to the loans, his family has overcome difficulties from the
COVID-19 pandemic and maintain their pomelo farms, pig breeding in association
with honey bee farming, securing stable income.
Nguyen Minh Hung, Director of the Hoa Binh branch of the VBSP said that
currently, total loan outstanding in the province is over 4.55 trillion VND
with 18 credit programmes, which are provided to 99,876 households.
Thanks to policy credit, more than 21,800 poor and policy beneficiary
households have promoted production and business activities and improved their
living conditions. Particularly, 3,629 poor, 2,777 near-poor households and
1,484 households that have freshly escaped from poverty have accessed policy
capital. The capital has helped create jobs for 3,416 labourers. Thousands of
clean water and sanitation works have been built in rural areas thanks to the
capital.
