(HBO) – Yen Thuy district has nearly 70% of its population being ethnic minority people, 1.165 poor households, of which 1,021 are ethnic minorities. The district has mobilised resources and well implemented the Party and the State’s policies to improve the lives of ethnic minority people in the locality.

During 2021 - 2023, the district built 59 projects with a total investment of over 600 billion VND (23.4 million USD), 31 of have been put into operation. Many construction investment projects have proved effective, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and improving material and spiritual lives of the locals.

The district has 17 clean water works in operation the percentage of households using clean water according to common standards reaches 95%, and all households have access to national grid electricity.

In addition, the district has carried out agricultural and rural credit policies, social policy credits, established and developed collective economy, linked production along value chain and connected product consumption, and attracted and encouraged businesses to invest in agriculture and rural areas.
The locality has also expanded investment and lending to serve all types of economies, preferential lending to policy beneficiaries, contributing to food shortage eradication and poverty reduction.

Implementing the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, in 2022 - 2023, the district has allocated over 102 billion VND to carry out domestic water support projects, production development support and some components of the programme. The district’s Fatherland Front and socio-political organisations participate in humanitarian and charity activities to support the poor in ethnic minority areas with a total amount of nearly 2 billion VND.

The district has effectively used investment resources to develop specialised production to improve productivity and product quality, and build brands, especially developing medicinal plant areas. The district has 32 new-style rural residential areas, 295 garden models, and 16 one commune – one product products (OCOP), creating favourable conditions for forming production linkage models to enhance value.

Pham Van Luu, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Yen Thuy district Party Committee, said that in the coming time, the district will continue to strengthen leadership, direction, and administration to carry out tasks of the National Target Programmes, and project policies. The locality will also promote information and popularisation of the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's policies and laws on the national programmes, projects, and policies to raise awareness of people from all walks of life to participate in the implementation and monitor the implementation process.

Luu noted that the locals are encouraged to actively fight the acts of taking advantage of ethnic, religious and belief issues to incite and divide ethnic solidarity, contributing to ensuring political security, social order and safety in the locality.

Progress in ethnic minority education

In the 2024 - 2025 school year, the entire Hoa Binh provincial education sector includes 520 educational institutions and schools. Among them are 13 ethnic boarding schools with 153 classes and 4,487 students. Four of these schools have met national standards, reaching 30.7 percent.
