Last year, the province's population and development work reaped positive results, with many targets surpassing the designed targets. Its population was estimated at over 896,500 people, including over 235,600 women aged 15-49. The number of people using contraceptive methods was over 60,000, equivalent to 103.3% of the set plan. The total number of births was over 11,500. The sex ratio at birth was 111.2 boys per 100 girls, a decrease of 0.2% compared to 2022. The proportion of women delivering a third child or more was 17.2%, a decrease of 0.9% compared to 2022. The supply of contraceptive methods and the provision of family planning services, reproductive health care, improving population quality and communication work and enhancing the capacity of cadres involving in population affairs at all levels were effectively implemented. 

By the first quarter of 2024, the total population of the province increased to over 927,500 people, the sex ratio at birth increased by 1.7% compared to the same period last year while the proportion of people having the third child fell by 0.8%. 

Delegates at the meeting clarified some difficulties and limitations in the implementation process, mulled over a report on the province's population and development and coordination in the implementation of population and development work among the members of the provincial Steering Committee and those at district and city-levels. 

In his concluding remarks, Toan hailed the results of the province's population and development work achieved in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. He suggested that agencies, departments, and members of the Steering Committee devise implementation plans, adopt measures to overcome difficulties and strictly deal with those who give birth to a third child. 

Attention should be paid to reproductive health care, improve the quality of care for the elderly and training to enhance the capacity of the population collaborators as well as set forth solutions to improve population quality, he added.
