Dinh Thi Xuyen, a 12th grader of the Muong Bi High School in Tan Lac district has scored three perfect 10 in History, Geography and Civic Education tests in the high school graduation examination this year.

Xuyen comes from a disadvantaged family in Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district. Her family used to be a near-poor household for years and just got out of poverty two years ago. Her father has been working far from home for nearly ten years and rarely returned home. Her mother works on the farm, sells some food stuff at a small stall in Da Trang pass area. After school, when Xuyen has free time, she usually helps her mother with chores or selling goods at the family's store.

According to Xuyen, she just studied at school and reviewed lessons at home as her family’s finance was not good enough for her to afford any extra classes.

Her school is 15 km away from her house but she had no bicycle to ride. So, every morning, she asked her friend for a ride to reach the school.

On July 17 morning, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results the 2024 high school graduation examination. Hoa Binh province had 12 candidates getting 10 for two subjects and
Xuyen is the only one student in the province that got three perfect 10 in History, Geography and Civic Education.

Xuyen’s mother Bui Thi O said that she is so happy to know that her daughter passed the high school graduation exam, and amazingly, she got three perfect 10.

Xuyen's homeroom teacher Tran Thi Thuy shared that Xuyen is a student with difficult circumstances, but she was very obedient, hardworking, determined to study and she learnt all subjects well. Although her house is far, after school, Xuyen usually reviewed lessions with friends at the school library in the evening, Thuy said.

On the first mock exam for high school graduation, Xuyen got the highest score in the school, Thuy added. Sharing her tips to get good results at the graduation exam, Xuyen said she tried to grasp the basic knowledge in the textbook and did extra assignments of teachers.

Talking about her motivation to study, Xuyen said that as her parents have to work very hard, she wants to have a stable job so that she can help her parents.

She wishes to become a teacher in the future, she said.
