The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism ceremoniously presented awards today (July 8) to honour outstanding pioneers who have been actively involved in the growth and development of the country’s tourism industry.

Though tourism is still in its preliminary stages of development, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, these individuals and companies have been credited with introducing a wide range of innovative practices that have helped it start to take shape.

According to VNAT office chief Vu Quoc Tri, the number of inbound travellers to Vietnam during the first six months of 2017 was higher than in the same period last year, with visitors from China and the Republic of Koreaaccounting for most of the growth.

The VNAT awards, first held in 1999, are considered the most prestigious annual awards for the tourism industry in Vietnam. The presentation of the awards is held on the occasion of Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9).
