(HBO) - Community tourist attraction in Mo village, Binh Thanh commune (Cao Phong) used to be a popular tourist destination of domestic and foreign tourists. However, in recent years, this tourist destination is no longer attractive to many visitors.

The staff of Cao Phong District Board of Culture and Sports, People's Committee of Binh Thanh commune surveyed reality at community tourist attraction of Mo 2.

As far as we know, community tourism in Mo 2 village was formed naturally and no one remembers exactly when and how to start and run on tourism business. However, it is confirmed that the local people’s lives are fuller and enough thanks to tourism business. Mr. Nguyen Duy Nghia, an elderly person in the village, recalled: In the years 78-79 of the last century, there were delegations of specialists of the former Soviet Union from the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant to visit, learn about the life of Muong ethnic people living here. After visiting, seeing the beauty of the village, they brought their family, friends to visit more and more. Over the time, Giang Mo Hamlet (the old name of the community tourist attraction of Mo 2 village today) became a familiar name for foreign tourists and became a tourist destination since then.

However, it is the story of the golden age of Giang Mo Hamlet. But at present, most of the local people in the commune are interested in doing this kind of tourism business. Mo 2 Village has 121 households but only 39 of that are doing tourism business. The village cannot mobilize the participation of the community in community tourism so the landscape "accidentally" is broken. No longer is there the green terraces spreading untouched, flowing streams murmuring day and night. Mr. Dinh Van Dan, the Head of Mo 2 village said: Previously, at the foot of Mo Mountain, there were more than 100 roofs on original stilt houses with the preservation of the living habits, cultural characteristics of Muong ethnic minority. Now, there are only 32 stilt houses. The habits of accommodation, activities, and cultural characteristics are also partially missing.

Exchanging about this issue, Mr. Quach Van Ngoan, Vice Chairman of Cao Phong District People's Committee, said: In 2017, the District People's Committee has developed a plan to restore and preserve this community tourist site. The goal of the district is to develop Mo 2 village into becoming a community tourist attraction that will attract tourists to visit and experience. Accordingly, the district will invest in and renovate the infrastructure of Mo 2 village; set up a booth to introduce products, have a system of catering services, have a music team in the village to perform and serve visitors. We are also particularly interested in restoring the cultural identities which are gradually lost by building a gallery to introduce products, specialties, features of Muong ethnic cultural identity. In addition, the district will allocate some funds to support some households or groups of rice farmers in the village and to enhance training and skills for the local people to serve tourists.
