(HBO) – Mai Chau mountainous district has age-old traditional culture with Thai and Mong ethnic groups as majority. The district authorities have focused on the diversification of cultural and art activities to preserve and promote traditional values as well as enrich spiritual lives of local people.

Ha Van Tuan, Director of Mai Chau district’s culture and sport centre, said that among 183 art troupes in the district, 138 were set up under decision of the district People’s Committee. They are supported with 2 million VND every year for operation. In some communes that developing community based tourism like Lac, Van, Buoc and Pom Coong villages, 15-25 members of art troupes regularly practice to serve tourists. They also organize exchanges and performances in communes, villages and hamlets, attracting many local people.

Excellent performers at the district public art festival were chosen to attend the contest at provincial level and won first prize with stellar performances like singing performance "Tay Bac hoa dieu” (Northwestern melody) and dance performance "Huong sac que em” (Homeland beauty).

Luu Huy Linh, Vice Director of the Hoa Binh provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that the province is maintaining, developing and improving operation quality of over 2,000 public art troupes. They are working to popularise the Party’s policies and guidelines as well as the State’s laws and regulations, enhancing dedication in working and life among local people.

Traditional musical instruments and singing resonate at villages and residences from rural to urban areas during local and national significant celebrations.

Public art clubs have enjoyed ebullient activities, luring the attention of a throng of locals. Ky Son, Cao Phong, Lac Thuy, Mai Chau, Yen Thuy, Da Bac and Lac Son districts have fully taped the operation of art troupes to serve local spiritual lives and political missions.

Such cultural activity has positive influence on building a civilised society while reducing unsound customs and promoting traditional cultural features of ethnic minority groups./.

In the first 9 months of 2024, Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province welcomed over 684 thousand visitors to visit and relax. In which, over 516 thousand domestic visitors and more than 168 thousand international visitors. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at over 821 billion VND.
