Chairman of the Hoa Binh People’s Committee, talks to leaders of the provincial
Transport Department and enterprises at the function.
In 2017, the department recommended
the provincial People’s Committee issue a number of documents, such as the auto
transport development planning toward 2020 with a vision toward 2030, parking
planning toward 2025, a project to build cement roads for 2017 – 2020, and pilot
operation of electric buses to serve tourists to Tien Pagoda in Phu Lao
commune, Lac Thuy district.
Concerning the management
of transport, vehicles and drivers, the department always requested transport
companies, bus stations, and wharves to build plans, prepare vehicles and other
necessaries to ensure safe and smooth travelling. It also assessed and
classified local bus stations following the national technical standards. Statistics
showed that Hoa Binh had 103 transport companies and hundreds of household
businesses operating in the sector, with 711 vehicles.
Last year, local roads
were severely affected by heavy rains and storms, particularly a low-pressure
tropical storm taking place from October 9-12 which caused damage worth billions
of VND. The sector worked with relevant forces to promptly handle transport
disruptions.
In addition to traffic law
education, the sector checked 2,363 vehicles and found 865 of which violating
the law, collecting total fines of 6.64 billion VND and revoking 393 driving
licences.
The conference discussed
measures to fulfill tasks set for the sector in 2018.
Addressing the event, Bui
Van Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Hoa Binh People’s Committee, lauded the role of
the transport sector last year and asked the sector to continue administrative
reform, improve management, and ensure traffic safety.
He recommended the
department work with the Finance Department to develop rural transport
infrastructure, and put forth measures to attract investment in infrastructure
projects.
