Last year, 102 traffic accidents injured 79 people and killed 79 others in Hoa Binh province. The number of accidents and injured victims were the same as recorded in 2017, but the fatalities increased by one.

Major causes for the cases were violations of traffic rules, driving in the wrong lane, speeding, drunk driving, and not wearing helmet.

Men were responsible for 97.06 percent of the traffic accidents in the year. People, aging 27-55, caused the highest number of the accidents, accounting for 62 percent of the total. Meanwhile, car accidents made up more than 58 percent of the total accidents.

On the province’s roads, local authorities detected and gave punishment to 13,723 cases of traffic rule violation, with a total fine of more than 11.1 billion VND. They seized 2,782 vehicles that broke traffic rules, and some 1,079 drivers had their licenses withdrawn.

Regarding waterway traffic, 49 cases were punished with total administrative fine of 355 million VND.

In the Traffic Safety Year 2019 themed "Traffic safety for passengers and motorcycle riders”, the province targeted to reduce the numbers of traffic accidents, injured victims and fatalities by at least 5 percent. It will focus on communication work to popularise traffic safety regulations and top causes of traffic accidents at schools, rural and remote areas. Inspections will be enhanced to curb traffic safety violations./.
