Over the past years, the provincial Association for the Elderly has proactively launched practical initiatives to guarantee that the elderly have timely access to benefits and policies tailored to their needs, ensuring they live with dignity, happiness, and good health.
Elders
in Tay Phong commune, Cao Phong distric, actively join inter-generational
self-help club.
One shining example is the Bang street inter-generational self-help club, led
by Pham Van Son who said the club not only cares for its elderly members but
also actively engages them in enriching cultural and spiritual activities. From
music and exercise to soft volleyball, the club has successfully raised over
100 million VND (4,100 USD) to support economically disadvantaged elders,
ensuring local social welfare is robust and effective.
The association boasts an impressive network of over 123,000 members across 151
grassroots chapters, 1,476 sub-associations, and 2,419 groups. Collaborating
with various sectors and mass organisations, they have actively performed three
key tasks, three major working programmes, and two tasks assigned by the
Government and the provincial People's Committee. A focus in their mission is
enhancing the spiritual life of the elderly, a critical task that contributes
to building a strong organisational foundation.
In the first half of this year alone, the chapters worked with relevant sectors
to advise the Elderly Care Fund Management Council, resulting in nearly 9,000
gifts being distributed to poor and disadvantaged elderly individuals, totaling
4.8 billion VND (200,000 USD). Across the province, 15,276 senior citizens are
eligible for social assistance, including those who are lonely or disabled, and
those aged 80 and above. Additionally, over 107,000 elders have health
insurance, with tens of thousands receiving regular health check-ups and
initial health monitoring at medical facilities.
The province has established and maintained over 1,600 clubs, groups, and
teams, attracting nearly 40,200 members to cultural, art, and sports
activities. More than 17,000 elders have embarked on tours to historical sites
nationwide, fostering a sense of community and enriching their lives. To keep
the momentum, the associations at various levels jointly organise sports
competitions and contests to celebrate national and local events and holidays.
Since 2020, 70 new clubs of this kind have been
established in the province.
