Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on January 7 signed Decision No. 48/QD-TTg recognising Hoa Binh city as a Tier-2 urban area in Hoa Binh province.

Hoa Binh city encompasses its entire current administrative area, covering 348.65 sq.km. The inner-city area is set to comprise the 12 existing wards and Mong Hoa commune, expected to be upgraded to a ward, with a total area of 169.87 sq.km. The suburban area will consist of six existing communes covering 178.78 sq.km. in total. 

Chairman of the Hoa Binh city People's Committee Pham Anh Quy attributed this achievement to the dedicated leadership and guidance by the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and various ministries, central agencies, local departments and sectors, as well as the concerted efforts and strong determination of the Party Committee, administration, and people of Hoa Binh city. 

A ceremony is scheduled to take place in March 2025 to officially announce Hoa Binh city as a Tier-2 urban area.
