(HBO) - A delegation from the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention led by Nguyen Xuan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and head of the committee, made a tour of Hoa Binh province to inspect its post-disaster reconstruction.

The delegation had a working session with member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Bui Van Tinh, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Quang, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung.

 During the working session, the local officials updated the delegation on results of response and reconstruction after flash floods and landslides in the province in recent time.

 

The delegation makes a field trip to Khanh hamlet (Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district) where 18 people were killed and missed after serious landslides.

 

On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee proposed the delegation ask the Government to consider supporting the locality to effectively implement the work.

In particular, it called for over 420 billion VND in support for the emergency resettlement of local households affected by landslides and flash floods, and 250 billion VND for repairing the damage caused by landslides in the east of Ong Tuong Hill and along National Road 6, in group 4 of Thai Binh ward and groups 4 and 5 of Cham Mat ward (Hoa Binh city).


The delegation visits new houses of families that lost their homes in landslides in Khanh hamlet (Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district).

 

Speaking at the working session, Bui Van Tinh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, asked the delegation to consider helping the province solve the most difficulties in the work, towards stabilizing locals’ life, controlling the risk of landslide in several vulnerable areas, especially in the east of Ong Tuong Hill (Hoa Binh city) before the rainy season of 2018; supporting restoration of agricultural production after the disaster; and supporting investment in the construction of key infrastructure facilities.

 On behalf of the working delegation, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong praised joint efforts made by the province’s Party organisations, authorities and people in natural disaster prevention and rescue in 2017. 

The work was implemented effectively with the involvement of the whole political system, he said, adding that the good performance in overcoming disaster consequences and reconstructing showed the high responsibility of the local authorities and the solidarity of people.


He asked the local authorities to continue supporting local victims of natural disasters in 2017 during the upcoming Traditional Tet (New Year) festival.

 

On behalf of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong presented Tet gift packages to 41 households in Tan Lac and Mai Chau districts.

 

In the framework of the working session, the delegation inspected the post-disaster reconstruction in Khanh hamlet (Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district). They also visited and presented Tet gifts to resettled households and poor families affected by natural disasters in 2017 in Tan Lac and Mai Chau districts.

On the occasion, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention in conjunction of the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee presented 200 Tet gifts worth 1.1 million VND each to disaster-affected poor households in Hoa Binh in 2017./.
