The district has issued a resolution on urban development, plans and projects for urban development along with a roadmap, aiming to achieve an urbanisation rate of 15% by 2025 and 25% by 2030 by developing urban areas in the towns of Vu Ban, Muong Vo, and Muong Khoi according to urban levels.

In recent years, Vu Ban town has undergone significant changes in terms of infrastructure, thanks to attention paid to urban planning. Some transportation and infrastructure projects have been implemented, opening up space for urban development. Several industrial production and service projects have been put into operation, leading to a shift in the local labour structure. Several other projects are being launched to meet the development requirements outlined in the district’s Party Congress Resolution.

Vu Ban town is a fifth-tier urban area with a natural area of 197 hectares. By the end of 2021, the urbanisation rate of the district reached 8.65%, the lowest in the province. The rate increased to 9.66% by the end of 2022.

Lac Son district's Party Committee issued Resolution No. 05-NQ/HU, dated July 26, 2021 on urban development in the district. Accordingly, the district’s urbanisation rate is set at 15 % by 2025 and 25% by 2030 and 70% of its population will live in urban areas.

Bui Van Linh, Chairman of the district People's Committee, said over the years, attention has been paid to investment and urban development, aiming to ensure comprehensive development of technical and social infrastructure as well as urban landscape architecture, and leveraging the potential and advantages of the locality.

Development plans have been expanded to cover the entire district, creating additional development space for urban areas and effectively exploiting land fund. The district has submitted regional, zoning and detailed plans to competent authorities for approval, which enables effective management and mobilisation of resources for infrastructure development, attracting capable investors to implement projects in key areas to promote economic and social development.

According to the urban development plan of Lac Son district for 2021 – 2025 period, with a vision until 2030, a Muong Vo new urban area will be established and the An Nghia urban area in Muong Khoi town will become a fifth-tier urban area. Vu Ban town is set to turn into a fifth-tier urban area and become the nucleus of socio-economic development of the locality.

An Nghia urban area is expected to turn into a comprehensive economic development area by 2035, with industry - handicrafts, trade and services as driving forces.

Lac Son district has planned key projects on upgrading main roads in Nhan Nghia, An Nghia, and Yen Nghiep communes; constructing new internal roads for the new administrative, commercial, sports, and residential area along the Buoi River; and upgrading roads linking residential areas with the transportation axis of the region. Investment has been poured into expanding a road that connects Vu Ban town with Quy Hoa commune and another one that links Ho Chi Minh Highway and Tan Phong industrial park in Lac Son district.
