(HBO) – The low investment cost, simple techniques, available materials, early harvest, high profits; the model of planting mushroom has brought for the family of Nguyen Van Quang (Phu Ngoc village, Cu Yen commune, Luong Son) an income of nearly 150 million dongs/ year. Mushroom growing is not new but still very effective, which helps him and many other households in the region to escape poverty and try to get rich.

Previously, Quang’s family was poor; their income was based on being hired and some rice field, therefore, their condition was so difficult. While not being able to find a way out of poverty, he was paid a visit to the mushroom growing facilities in Dong Anh District (Hanoi). Recognizing that the mushroom cultivation is simple, at a low cost, without spending much time for harvesting and growing many crops in a year, each crop can gain from several dozen to hundreds of million dongs; materials are so simple, such as sawdust, straw and reed, etc., which are always available in the homeland. Therefore, he decided to bring mushroom growing model to his locality with an expectation to get rich right at his homeland.

The mushroom growing model of Nguyen Van Quang (Phu Ngoc village, Cu Yen commune, Luong Son) brings the income from 100 to 150 million dongs/ year.

Coming back home, Quang started to build mushroom growing facilities. Thanks to the loan from the Social Welfare Bank of Luong Son District, his siblings and relatives started to plant mushroom in the house of 150 m2. He ordered the oyster mushroom species from Thai Binh, self- studied the cultivation techniques through newspapers, magazines and Internet. Because of the lack of caring experience, for some initial mushroom crops, some bags were broken, slowly developed or slow yield. Besides, this product was still strange to the local people in the commune; he faced with a lot of difficulties in finding the output for it. Undauntedly, he always persisted in his mushroom growing model, although other mushroom growers in the area gave up. Through each mushroom crop, he accumulated more experience, and found many stable customers at the same time. At present, Quang's oyster mushroom growing facility has become a reliable source of supplying oyster mushroom to the stores at Luong Son market, Xuan Mai, etc.

Speaking about the mushroom growing experiences, Quang said: Mushroom growing is not difficult but it takes a lot of care and perseverance for it. selecting and processing the species is the most important work. In addition, the work of bag packing decides the success of the mushroom crop. The water must be irritated evenly, too much water will make the mushroom bags flooded and damaged. Creating the low and humid environment in the house will make mushroom develop faster, and regular sterilization will protect mushroom from infection.”

The mushroom growing model has been developed for 8 years up to now, he has 3 houses of planting mushroom, and each factory has the area of 150-300 m2 with the total of 12,000 bags. The oyster mushroom is sold in the market with the price of 25,000 – 30,000 dong/ kg, after deducting production cost, the mushroom growing model brings him the income of 100 -150 million dongs per year. The mushroom growing materials are very simple and available to collect, such as straw, reed and waste cotton, sawdust, etc. Therefore, mushroom growing model can be expanded everywhere, helping to get out of poverty, reduce poverty and increase the income for many households.

"When I first planted mushrooms, I was very worried about the output of the product, but now I do not meet the demand, many customers come to my house asking for mushrooms but they have been harvested already and no longer for sale” Quang delightedly said.
