Vietnamese rambutans have been approved for export to New Zealand, which will be officially announced at a ceremony on April 10.

Vietnam to export rambutans to New Zealand

At the event, New Zealand's experience and innovative solutions will also be shared in order to help Vietnam improve the competitiveness of the sector.

Earlier, the good news was announced during the official visit to New Zealand by Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue on July 27, 2017.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnamese rambutans have been exported to the US, Canada, the EU, Eastern Europe, several countries in Africa, China and a number of other countries in Southeast Asia.

Vietnamese rambutans are mainly grown in the southern provinces with an area of more than 50,000 hectares, providing roughly 300,000 tonnes of produce each year.

The export of Vietnamese rambutans to New Zealand will contribute to increasing the export turnover of this year and in the future. In 2017, the export value of fruit and vegetables reached over US$ 3.5 billion, up by 40%, while the export turnover in the first quarter of 2018 reached US$ 950 million, up 35.6% over the same period.
