Tran Xuan Vu, a resident in Tien Phong hamlet, Mai Ha commune, is an outstanding
participant of the local good production – business movement.
Participating in economic development, contributing to hunger
eradication –poverty reduction and doing business in line with the law have become
a common perception of the elderly in the district. Many typical examples of
individuals and organisations with significant achievements in the production
of agro-forestry-fishery, craft and service products have emerged from the
movement. At present, there are over 1,000 local households with elderly
members taking part in the agro-forestry-fishery business. The elderly members
have passed down their production experience and encouraged their descendants
to go for plant – animal farming restructuring and technological application.
As a result, many households have secured higher incomes and become richer.
Typical examples of them include families of Khanh Van Danh and Ha Van Quang
(Van Mai commune); and Ha Van Duong, Khanh Van Hung, and Ngan Van Thoan (Chieng
Chau commune). These households have seen their elderly members directly
playing an important role in business and production activities.
In addition to agricultural production, local elderly have actively
overcome difficulties to develop the craft industry and services. Mai Chau is
home to more than 600 small-scale establishments of craft production, many of
them owned by the elderly. Some cases in point are Truong Vinh Chong’s in Mai
Chau town, which is a brick production and rock quarrying workshop, and Nguyen
Van Cu’s in Van Mai commune which is a business making bamboo sticks and chopsticks.
In the field of tourism and services, the older generation, based
on real-life experience, has provided useful advice for the young in developing
community-based tourism. Local families with outstanding achievements in the development
of this kind of business include those of Ha Cong Xuong, Mac Van Khao, and Mac
Cong Buong in Chieng Chau commune./.
