The aforementioned wage adjustment was agreed upon by all of the 15 members of the National Wage Council during the third meeting, held by the council to discuss the issue in Hai Phong city on August 13. The meeting took place under the chair of Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs cum Chairman of the National Wage Council, Doan Mau Diep, with the presence of representatives from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), which represents businesses, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), which represents labourers. According to the meeting’s results, the regional minimum wage will rise to VND4.18 million per month (roughly US$180) for Region I, up VND200,000; VND3.71 million (around US$160) for Region II, up VND180,000; VND3.25 million (approximately US$140) for Region III, up VND160,000; and VND2.92 million (US$125.5) for Region IV, up VND160,000.
