(HBO) – Farmers in Hoa Binh province are happily entering the harvesting season of their main crops of agricultural products as they are enjoying increases in both consumption and prices. In addition, many plants have bumper crops with stable productivity and safe quality.

Famers in Dich Giao commune, Tan Lac district collect melon.
Along with big wax
gourd and pumpkin growing areas such as Tan Lac, Yen Thuy and Lac Son, areas
that grow melons of different kinds like Kim Boi and Mai Chau are at the end of
harvesting season, with good consumption.
Regarding production
and consumption in the spring crops, Nguyen Hong Yen, head of the provincial cultivation
and plant protection sub-department, said that production is quite good, and
the weather is favourable for harvesting. The structure of crops continues to
be converted to meet market demands, with the focus on crops that produce high
economic values such as wax gourd, pumpkin, water melon and cucumber.
Therefore, concentrated production areas have been formed, thus bringing about
high income for locals, such as melon growing areas in Kim Boi, Mai Chau, Yen
Thuy, Lac Thuy and Tan Lac districts.
Prices of agricultural
products are 20-30 percent higher than those of previous years. The
productivity of cucurbits is estimated at 25 tonnes per hectare, melons at
18-20 tonnes a hectare, vegetables at 12-18 tonnes a hectare. In terms of
value, each hectare of wax gourd and melons can bring about 180-220 million
VND. To date, about 1,500 hectares out of 5,400 hectares of crops in the
province are in harvesting season.
Local farm produce
enjoys stability in terms of productivity, quality and consumption. A half
volume of agricultural products is sold in the province, and the remaining is sold
in other localities. The good consumption of the products has helped locals
feel secured in production./.
