(HBO) – Members of the Duong Nam agricultural, forestry services cooperative in Phu Thanh commune, Lac Thuy district, Hoa Binh province are now busy with cultivating its orange areas that are likely to produce abundant crops this year. The oranges grown by Duong Nam cooperative are renowned for their signature flavour and sweet taste, helping them gain a strong foothold in the market in recent years.

The cooperative
was founded in June, 2017,with Duong Ngoc Chuc as the director. Its members have since joined hands to grow high-quality and high-value agricultural
products on an area of 13 hectares, including eight hectares of orange, four hectares of grapefruit and one hectare of tea.
The cooperative
believes the product quality and consumers’ confidence are two factors driving its sustainable development. That is why its members
have been using safe and clean practices in cultivating citrus fruit trees,
particularly orange, with restricted use of pesticides. To improve the orange’s
yield, the cooperative has regularly fertilised the trees with soybeans and
used biopesticides like ginger, garlic and chilli.
Last year, the
cooperative produced 100 tonnes of safe orange and purchased another 600 tonnes to supply to Hanoi and major
supermarket chains such as BigC and Lotte. Its revenue exceeded 4 billion VND
and its members earned 5 – 6 million VND on average per person per month.
It has been
honoured as an outstanding organisation by the provincial Cooperative
Alliance./.
The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on November 20 coordinated with Hai Dang Group Hoa Binh Seafood Company Limited to release 1.5 tonnes of fries into Hoa Binh Lake to regenerate aquatic resources, with a total value of 266 million VND (10,460 USD).

From a type of bulb used as a seasoning for daily meals, thanks to the efforts of local authorities and farmers, shallots have become a commercial crop in Yen Thuy district, contributing to promoting the transformation of crop structure in agricultural production, bringing higher incomes to locals.
