(HBO) – Visiting Cao Phong district in the northern province of Hoa Binh these days, visitors will be impressed by the attractive colour of the succulent and sweet oranges, a specialty of the land.

The harvest season of Cao Phong orange has begun, attractive visitors far and wide.

Bumper orange season promises to bring high income for farmers in Cao Phong district

Cao Phong oranges are famous nationwide for their fresh smell, sweet taste and deep orange colour. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy and her family members visited an orange orchard to pick oranges. "We often visit Cao Phong district every orange season to buy the fruit and enjoy time together,” Thuy said.

Thanks to favourable weather, citrus trees in Cao Phong district have a great crop of high quality fruits this year. Of the total area of 1,744 ha citrus trees, orange trees cover about 1,357 ha. Currently, farmers are harvesting oranges and tangerines at a price of 20,000-25,000 VND/kg.

After a two-year hiatus due to the consequences of COVID-19 (2020-2021), Cao Phong district is busy restarting the traditional Cao Phong orange festival this November. This is a good chance for the district to promote its image, culture and strength to draw more tourists.

In 2014, the oranges received a geographical indication certification, affirming Cao Phong orange’s brand in the local market. However, it was not until 2019, when Cao Phong district implemented the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) programme, that the oranges truly became a signature brand of the district.

There are five orange products from two units that meet OCOP standards, including three from Ha Phong Cooperative and two from Cao Phong Agricultural Cooperative. The district's OCOP products are good quality, beautiful in appearance and highly competitive.
Together with sunny orange hills, Cao Phong district is also home to sugarcane fields, and paved roads shaded by trees.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Secretary of Cao Phong’s Party Central Committee, the district has advantages in terms of natural landscape, unique cultural resources, suitable for developing diverse types of tourism.

Thanks to appropriate development orientation, the district’s appearance has improved compared to 20 years ago (at the time of the establishment of the district on the basis of separation from Ky Son district).

From the land with many difficulties, after 20 years, Cao Phong is rising strongly, inheriting and promoting the value of Muong Thang ancient land. Successfully escaping from poverty, Cao Phong has become a beautiful and prosperous countryside, a place for three ethnic groups, namely Muong, Kinh and Dao, of which the Muong ethnic people accounting for 72 percent of the population, living.

People's lives are constantly improving, infrastructure is invested, and socioeconomic development is pervasive, creating more motivation for the district to strive for new rural-styled standards by 2025 as set out by the Resolution of the 28th Party Congress (2020 – 2025 term)./.
