(HBO) - Coming to the communes of Sao Bay, Nam Thuong, Vinh Dong... in Kim Boi district these days, we can easily see the smiles of the farmers growing cucumbers. It is the harvest time, when the price is agreed, the traders pick, weigh, and pay on the spot with a high price. Along 12B street, it is also crowding with the people buying cucumbers at the beginning of the crop.

At this time, cucumbers are sold a lot on the roadside 12B with good consumption. The photo has been taken in Vinh Dong commune (Kim Boi).

Just finishing picking a few rows of cucumbers for traders, Mr. Bui Van Thach from Nam Bai village, Nam Thuong commune says: Realizing that the economic value of the sticky cucumbers is much higher than that of rice and some other crops, vegetables and legumes, my family has converted the area of rice land to grow cucumbers for many years. Growing cucumbers is not difficult, but it is necessary to regularly monitor and prevent pests and diseases in time. With an area of nearly 4,000 m2, we plant a cucumber crop in spring, then we plant jasmine. This year, the weather continues to be favorable, so cucumber garden is full of cucumbers and they are even. At the beginning of the harvest season, the traders buy them at high prices. My family has sold over one-third of the area of sticky cucumbers with the price of from 8,000-10,000 VND/kg right at the spot. The number of cucumbers sold at the market is also priced from 12,000 -15,000 VND/kg.

In the field of cucumbers in Kim Lap commune (Kim Boi), we met Ms. Bui Thi Thu. Her family is busier than usual because cucumber sare already in the harvest. According to her, Kim Boi sticky cucumber has been favored by many local consumers as well as those who are in the district, the province and the city for many years. Being harvested at the right time, the cucumber is moderately large, crispy, sweet with a characteristic aroma. Moreover, the level of intensive farming of the households is increasing day by day. Every household pays attention to the steps of soil preparation, disease prevention and applying the methods of safe care so that the cucumbers grow well and the quality is ensured when they reach the consumers. It may be for those reasons, the price of cucumbers in Kim Boi has been quite stable in recent years.

Coming up again, every harvest season, cars are busy coming in and out in the cucumber growing areas in Kim Boi,. Not only from Hoa Binh city, the traders from many localities such as Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Hanoi also come there to buy cucumbers. In addition to the cucumbers selected to buy from the gardens, the farmers also sell them along 12B road. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Anh, the Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kim Boi district, says: As the sticky cucumber is a local traditional plant, favored by many consumers, in recent years the district has encouraged the farmers to change their poor farming area of growing rice, vegetables and crops to growing this plant. Besides, in order to ensure that the harvested products are always clean and safe for the consumers' health, every year the district cooperates with the appropriate branches and specialized units to organize the training courses and transfer science and technology to the farmers; building and establishing the production models in the organic and safe direction; coordinating with the Provincial Sub-Department for Quality Management of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries and Fisheries to advise and certify VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards for the production households in need. At the same time, they guide the people on how to take advantage of the benefits of technology and effective consumption of cucumbers on the social networking platforms such as zalo, facebook...

This year, there is a total area of about 232 hectares growing cucumbers in the whole Kim Boi district. It is mainly in the communes of Vinh Dong, Du Sang, Sao Bay, Nam Thuong, Kim Lap... At this time, over 40% area of cucumbers in the whole district has been harvested. It is expected that at the end of the season, the district's total cucumber production reaches about 4.5 thousand tons.
