(HBO) - Over the past time, many farmers in Phu Thanh commune (Lac Thuy) have boldly changed the crops and livestock for economic development, in which the model of breeding cows has brought high economic efficiency and stable income, contributing to improving the economic life of the households.

The model of breeding cows of Ms. Quach Thi Le (far on the right), Dong Danh village, Phu Thanh commune (Lac Thuy) has brougt high economic efficiency.

Visiting the model of breeding cows of Ms. Quach Thi Le's household, Dong Danh village, we are surprised with the scale of the barn and modern design that Ms. Le has built. Cows are kept closed, fed and bathed daily; the waste from barns is fully utilized, composted and used to fertilize crops, increasing economic efficiency, saving costs, and protecting the environment. Building the model in 2020, from the initial 5 breeds, Ms. Le has grown to 26 cows. The price of milk purchased by the company is stable under the contract at 15,500 VND a liter, 200-250 liters of milk per day, the model gives over 1.1 billion VND a year. Being industrous, Ms. Le's family's economic life is increasing day by day. In order to increase the income, Ms. Le plans to expand the scale of the barn and increase the number of dairy cows compared to the current ones.

Ms. Le says: "I have signed a consumption contract with Vietnam Dairy Products joint Stock Company (Vinamilk), so the processes from food source, care, exploitation and preservation must comply with the strict requirements. The source of animal feed is elephant grass, corn biomass, no pesticides or growth drugs are used, which helps the dairy products ensure safety and quality for consumers. At the same time, the model is supported with the technical support, care and prevention of the common cattle diseases from the company’s staff, so the cows grow healthy. Thereby, it helps building prestige and trust for the consumption partners, ensuring the stable and long-term output, creating sustainability for the model".

Cow farming appeared in Phu Thanh commune in 2019. A number of livestock households visited and learned the models from the province to apply in the locality. A temperate climate, having many advantages, the stable development modelsnhave brought high productivity. In the whole commune, there have been 4 small and medium-sized dairy farms so far, all of which have signed long-term consumption contracts with Vinamilk, the stable output and prices help the farmers feel secure in breeding and production.

It is known that according to the signed contract, the farmers must follow the strict procedures from the purchasing company. On the contrary, the company commits to buy milk daily, not to reduce the purchase price if the milk quality meets all the required criteria. Compared with other livestock, dairy farming brings high economic efficiency, many times superior, however, the initial investment cost is high. The type of golden cow that people still raise costs 15 - 17 million VND one, the dairy cow costs 50 - 60 million VND one, and the livestock barns must also be clean for high productivity and milk production. This is a well-invested model from all stages, as a réult, in order to build and develop the model, the households need great initial capital, experienced people, and animal husbandry techniques to support, otherwise they will not succeed. However, this is still an effective economic development direction, because the income from dairy cows is completely worthy of the efforts of the farming households.

Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, the Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Phu Thanh Commune says: "The transformation of the economic structure, crops and livestock in the locality, in which the models of breeding cows bring positive results. This is a promising livestock breed, bringing much higher income than some other breeding models. Therefore, the commune continues creating the most favorable conditions for the households to access, visit and study the business. At the same time, they have been creating the conditions to help the households with the access loans to expand livestock production, increasing incomes, creating jobs for the employees, and gradually becoming one of the key economic sectors in the area. The per capita income of the whole commune has reached 73.8 million VND every year so far”.
