In order to realise a project to strengthen communications on limiting and
reducing plastic waste in the 2021-2025 period in Mai Chau district, the VNFU
chapter in Dong village of Dong Tan district has encouraged local farmers in
joining the environmental protection model with 20 members.
Ha The Anh, Chairman of the VNFU of Mai Chau district, said that the model is
based on voluntary spirit under the direct management of the local VNFU. The
model has helped enhance the local community’s awareness and behavior in
protecting the environment right in families, thus improving the living
production environment.
Mai Chau is not the only locality to optimise the role of the VNFU in
environmental protection. The VNFU at all levels in Hoa Binh have shown strong
performance in guiding and supporting farmers in protecting the environment and
sorting waste right in families, keeping the environment green, clean and
beautiful.
Defining communications as a key solution in improving public awareness in
environmental protection, the VNFU and its chapters at all levels have focused
on popularising and encouraging locals to join many movements.
Since the beginning of this year, the union and its chapters at all levels have
organised 966 events to popularise the Party's policies and resolutions and
State's laws regarding various areas for nearly 66,000 farmers.
Alongside, many effective models in environmental protection have been built,
including "farmer-managed roads”, "say no to plastic bags”, and "farmers’ tree
lines”.
Thanks to the efforts, so far, the majority of local farmers have clearly
understood their role in environmental protection and conducted practical
activities to ensure hygiene. More than 600 models of farmers engaging in
environmental protection and climate change response have been developed.
Bui Duc Bien, Vice Chairman of the provincial Farmers’ Union, attributed the
results to the close and effective coordination of unions at all levels and
other organisations and farmers.
He said that in order to further enhance environmental protection efficiency,
the union should strengthen directions to its chapter at grassroots level to
guide farmers in forest planting and protection and promote production in a
close chain to reduce environmental pollution./.
