Huu Nghi (friendship) street has been an outstanding residential area in Vu Ban town, Lac Son district, with the "cultural family” status bestowed on at least 99% of the local households for years.

According to Secretary of the Party organisation of Huu Nghi street Bui Van Nam, the movement "the whole people stay united to build the cultural life” has been implemented in the locality, aiming at sustainable poverty alleviation, environmental protection and response to climate change, building of the cultural life and cultural families, development of human resources and public healthcare, and engagement of social supervision and criticism, contributing to build a strong grassroots-level political system.

The movement has been integrated with many other programmes, helping shape up a safe, green and clean Huu Nghi street, now home to 338 households with 1,234 people, most of whom are Muong and Kinh ethnics.

Head of residential area Pham Thi Thuy said the movement has contributed to strengthening the great national solidarity bloc, resulting in robust economic development, and political and security stability.

Huu Nghi’s per capita income topped 58 million VND (2,278 USD) in 2023, she said, adding local fundraising programmes has received enthusiastic response from residents.

Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Vu Ban town Bui Thi Thi said Huu Nghi has made standout contributions to the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural traits while local ethnic groups have bolstered solidarity and provided support for people with difficult circumstances and those hit by natural disasters.

Over the past time, local quality of life has improved a lot, with infrastructure and equipment arranged to serve residents’ leisure and entertainment demand. Various sports and art contests have been organised, drawing a large number of local people, particularly members of the elderly association, farmers’ and women’s unions.
