Floods in October 2017
caused human and property losses for Mai Chau district and threatened life
safety of residents. The natural disaster also caused serious landslides in some
areas in Ban hamlet, Tan Dan commune. The People’s Committee of Mai Chau
district has proposed building a resettlement area and evaluating the level of
seriousness of erosion areas for quick resettlement. The Chairman of the
provincial People’s Committee has directed to include Ban hamlet into 15
resettlement areas of the province, and entrusted departments and sectors and Mai
Chau district to finalise relevant investment procedures.
Chairman Nguyen Van Quang has asked the
Construction Department to study land planning, the Natural Resources and
Environment Department to study geology, and the Department of Planning and
Investment to provide consultancy in investment procedures. He requested the Hoa
Binh Electricity Company to implement electricity projects while the Department
of Agriculture and Rural Development will support the province with
resettlement of households. The capital arrangement for the resettlement area
in Ban hamlet in the first phrase will be around 15 billion VND. Twenty-nine
households subjected to the area will be supported with 20 million VND each./.

To unlock the full potential of its forest resources, the standing board of the provincial Party Committee on July 30, 2020 issued a Resolution on the sustainable development of production forests through 2025, with a vision toward 2030.
