At a press conference in Hanoi on October 18, NA Secretary-General and Chairman of the NA’s Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc announced that the session will open on October 22 and last for 24 days, excluding weekends, before concluding on November 21.

The vote of confidence will be made before question-and-answer sessions to ensure equality amongst those being voted on, he noted.

During the sixth session, NA deputies will elect a new President of the state, consider the dismissal of Truong Minh Tuan from the post of Minister of Information and Communications, and vote on the appointment of a new Minister of Information and Communications.

Regarding lawmaking activities, they will discuss the approval of nine draft laws, including those on anti-corruption, the people’s public security force, and amnesty.

NA deputies are expected to approve a draft resolution ratifying the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and relevant documents, Phuc said.

Additionally, they will look into the draft revised laws on education, tax management, and public investment; the draft laws on architecture, and the prevention and control of alcohol and beer’s harms; and the draft law revising and supplementing some articles of the law on execution of criminal judgments.

The NA will also mull over reports on socio-economic development and state budget, along with revisions to the medium-term public investment plan and the national financial plan for 2016-2020.

He added that the performance of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Government’s capacity for combating crime and corruption, as well as the settlement of citizens’ complaints and denunciations are also among issues high on the agenda.

Fifteen plenary meetings of the session are set to be broadcast live on radio and television, NA Secretary-General Phuc said.
