HBO – With the theme of "Youths volunteer for the community”, the provincial committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU) has planned many new features for the Youth Month 2019, aiming to optimize young people’s strength to create effective and practical volunteer activities for the community.

Members of the Ky Son district young doctors’ club give free health check-ups and medicine to locals in Yen Quang commune as part of activities in response to the Youth Month 2019.

In the first week of the month, the HCM CYU chapters at all levels conducted many projects and activities in various fields and in diverse forms, ensuring their effective impacts.

The chapters planted more than 900 trees, while mobilising more than 2,300 volunteers to collect five tonnes of waste, upgrading 1.4km of rural roads, dredging 5.2km of in-field canals, popularizing the Law on Traffic Safety to 560 students, giving free health check-ups and medicine to more than 350 welfare policy beneficiaries worth nearly 45 million VND, and giving occupation orientations to more than 600 high-school students.

In the recent two years, the survey of demands serving the building of voluntary plans has been implemented by the union at all levels effectively. For the HCM CYU unions in the armed force units and State agencies, it is easier to define their strengths and build plans of volunteer activities accordingly.

For example, the Club of Young Cadres, which gathers outstanding young and enthusiastic officials from many provincial departments and agencies, showed strong performance in matching the demands of each locality with the strengths and capacity of each individual official. In order to create livelihood for social welfare beneficiary families and poor youngsters, the club mobilized resources to support them with plant and animal varieties, while sending members with knowledge in the field to give specific guidelines on techniques of growing and preventing diseases for plants and animals, contributing to the efforts of other sectors in sustainable poverty reduction.

Meanwhile, for members of chapters in rural areas and unofficial sectors, it is more difficult to discover and make use of youth union members’ capacity, requiring leaders of each chapter to have close ties with members.

As this is the first time that the Youth Month has been implemented systematically, leaders of the union have continued exploring the needs of localities in order to decide really useful volunteer activities such as those in building new-style rural area and civilisation in urban areas, ensuring social security, supporting youngsters in startup, and occupational consultations.

The Standing Board of the provincial HCM CYU Committee has also introduced an important item in the Youth Month plan of actions, which is training in promoting innovation among youngsters

The Youth Month 2019 will help the HCM CYU continue to effectively implement its important task of inspiring the youth to contribute to their homeland’s growth and prosperity.
