(HBO) – Lac Son district in northwestern Hoa Binh province held the third congress of ethnic minority groups with the theme "Ethnic groups in Lac Son district promote solidarity, internal strength, join hands to build new-style rural areas, civilised urban areas, rich hometown of integration and development”. As many as 150 delegates representing over 10,000 ethnic minority people in the district participated in the event.

Leaders of Lac Son district People's Committee present certificates of merit to individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic affairs and implementation of ethnic policies in the period of 2014 - 2019.

After five years (2014 - 2018), with the implementation of ethnic policies by the whole political system and the efforts of the entire people, the socio-economic situation and the life of ethnic minority groups in Lac Son district have been remarkably improved.

In the period of 2014 - 2019, the district has invested in building 235 infrastructure works in particularly poor areas with a total cost of over 125.9 billion VND. It also provided over 26.7 billion VND in support of underprivileged communes and hamlets to develop production.

Many social policies aim at poverty reduction and support for poor households to escape from poverty have received due attention such as the fund of over 25.8 billion VND for the supply of electricity to 45,732 households and over 8.2 billion VND for 25,951 poor families to enjoy traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

By 2024, the annual per capita income in extremely poor communes is expected to reach 45 million VND; 97 percent of households in rural areas could access clean water; and 70 percent of communes will meet the national criteria for health.

On the occasion, the district People’s Committee honoured 14 collectives and 34 individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic works in 2014-2019.

The congress elected 15 delegates to attend the provincial congress of ethnic minority groups./.
