Tan Lac district grows 1,100ha of grapefruit, which has brought about high economic efficiency for many households.
Being an agricultural district, but in recent years, Muong Bi has had a remarkable change in realising the Party’s resolutions, bringing into full play its potential and advantages, overcoming difficulties and increasing the quality of locals. The district has succeeded in renovating uncultivated gardens and converting to advantageous crops, maintaining the cultural identity of the Muong ethnic group, and developing tourism products in association with new-style rural building.
Over the past five years, the district has shifted low-effective rice cultivation on 2,500ha to other crops with higher values. Grapefruit has become the main crop that brings about high income, helping contribute to local economic development. Many households have invested in intensive farming and followed a safe production process, thus meeting higher market requirements. At present, a 1,100ha red and green grapefruit growing area has been formed, focusing on commune along national highway 12B, with an average income of 400-700 million VND per ha.
Meanwhile, mountainous communes have planted tropical vegetables such as chayote (around 90ha) with an average value of 180-200 million VND per ha. The Ministry of Science and Technology has recognised the collective brands for the district’s agricultural products, including "Quyet Chien chayote”, "Tan Lac red grapefruit” and "Nam Son tangerine”. Up to now, 40 percent of communes have met new-style rural building criteria and seven villages have been recognised as model residential areas.
The culture and tourism fields have also prospered, reflected through the planning of But-Muong Chieng cave cultural and spiritual site in Nam Duc town and Nam Son cave in Van Son commune, the building of Muong village and Luy Ai hamlet in Phong Phu commune, the development of community-based tourism in Ngoi hamlet in Suoi Hoa commune, Chien hamlet in Van Son commune and Buoi Cam hamlet in Phu Cuong commune, together with Lung May natural conservation ecotourism site in Quyet Chien commune and a resort and ecotourism site at the core area of Hoa Binh lake tourism site in Suoi Hoa commune.
Attention has paid to upgrading infrastructure in Man Duc and Phong Phu towns, contributing to improving the district’s urbanisation rate.
Party resolutions have been carried out effectively by the district’s Party Committee and people. The poverty rate was reduced from 31.54 percent in 2015 to 10.45 percent currently, with per capita income reaching 50 million VND annually./.
