A century ago, the success of the Russian October Revolution, led by the Bolsheviks and Vladimir Lenin, shook the world by breaking a major link of the capitalist-imperialist system and opening a new era for mankind.

                                                         Vladimir Lenin

It was the first time in history that the working people rose up to seize power and build a completely new form of society in a new era - the era of transition to socialism on a global scale.

The success of the Russian October Revolution and the birth of the Soviet state established by Lenin not only fundamentally transformed the fate of the Russian people, but also woke up colonised people to stand up and struggle to escape the chains of slavery, ushering in a strong national liberation movement around the world.

The success of the Russian October Revolution and the great achievements of the Soviet Union in the more than 70 years of its existence were the firm bastion of the international communist and workers' movement. The superiority of socialism, the comprehensive strength of the socio-economic system brought about by the Soviet regime is a motivation driving the oppressed peoples to unite and struggle for their lives, and for democracy and social progress even in the developed capitalist countries.

Although the world has changed dramatically since one hundred years ago, the spirit of the Russian October Revolution, the Soviet Union's achievements and contributions to mankind will remain deeply ingrained in the minds of the people of conscience all over the world.

To Vietnam, the Russian October Revolution shone a new light - the light of Marxism-Leninism that President Ho Chi Minh, then known as Nguyen Ai Quoc, was the one who discovered and affirmed that following the path of the Russian October Revolution is the only way for Vietnam to truly gain independence and freedom.

The success of the Russian October Revolution and the functioning of the Soviet government in practice has offered many valuable lessons for the Communist Party of Vietnam. With the creative adoption of Marxism-Leninism’s universal values, the lessons of the Russian October Revolution and the wholehearted support of the Soviet Union, socialist countries and progressive people all over the world, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led the Vietnamese people to overcome all difficulties and challenges to win glorious victories.

Emulating the successes and avoiding the mistakes in building socialism in the Soviet Union, the CPV has outlined a new correct path of reform for Vietnam while remaining loyal to the goals of national independence and socialism. The realities and significant achievements in the last 30 years are the results of disciplined reforms in which Marxism-Leninism and the Ho Chi Minh Thought are employed creatively to the specific conditions of Vietnam.

Marking the centenary of the October Revolution, the Vietnamese Party, people and armed forces are proud and fully aware of the ideals and goals of the socialist revolution. There are still many challenges facing Vietnam ahead on its path of comprehensive reform. Drawing the lessons from the collapse of the Soviet Union, Vietnam must strengthen its Party building effort by thwarting moral degradation, rooting out corruption and building a state of the people, by the people and for the people.

Under the light of the noble ideals of the Russian October Revolution and the leadership of the Communist Party, the entire people of Vietnam shall unite and strive to soon transform Vietnam into a modern industrialised nation. The great ideology of the Russian October Revolution on national liberation, social liberation and human liberation will shine forever.
