(HBO) - HoaBinh province’s Red Cross Association on June 23 held its sixth congress for the 2022 – 2027 tenure. Attending the event were Ngo Van Tuan, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Bui Van Tinh, former Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Honourary President of the association in the 2017-2022 term; Huynh Thi Xuan Lam, Vice President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC) Central Committee, among others.

Over the last term, the association has carried out humanitarian, charity and healthcare activities comprehensively and effectively which affirm its role in and responsibility for the community. It has also made efforts to raise awareness and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, departments, sectors and mass organisations in humanitarian and charity work. 

At present, the association has 382 officials working in 10 associations at the district and city level, and 202 at commune, ward and township ones. In the 2017-2022 term, associations at all levels have supported over 280,000 poor households, with a total value of 118.2 billion VND (5.08 million USD), nearly doubling the figure of the previous term. 

With the results, the provincial association received one emulation flag of the VRC Central Committee, and another of the provincial People's Committee, while one collective and one individual received the Government's certificates of merit, and 23 collectives and nine individuals were presented with certificates of merit from the provincial People's Committee, and 251 collectives and 288 individuals got certificates of merit from the VRC Central Committee. 

At the congress, delegates discussed difficulties and obstacles in the past term, and set out directions and tasks for the new one, including continuing to expand the membership; strengthen training, humanitarian relief, medicine distribution, people's health care; and step up disseminations on blood donation. 

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Ngo Van Tuan recognised and appreciated the achievements by the associations at all levels in the past term. Highlighting several tasks and solutions for the new term, he asked the associations at all levels to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement Directive No. 43-CT/TW, dated June 8, 2010, of the 10th Party Central Committee’s Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in the work of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; effectively implement seven activities specified in the Law on Red Cross Operations; and step up communication on humanitarian values and activities of the associations at all levels. 

It is necessary to strongly innovate the content and mode of operation, regularly pay attention to consolidating and building up the associations at all levels and increasing the number of volunteers; intensifying Red Cross work in offices and schools; duplicating and diversifying suitable and effective humanitarian models; and closely following requirements and tasks of the Party Congress's resolutions at all levels, and effectively implementing campaigns and movements launched by the VRC Central Committee and the province. 

The congress elected 31 to the Executive Board, and 11 to the Standing Board of the provincial Red Cross Association for the 2022 – 2027 tenure. It also elected five official and one alternate delegate to the 11th Vietnam Red Cross Congress for the 2022 – 2027 tenure. Bui Quoc Viet was re-elected as Chairman of the provincial association, while Vice Chairs are Nguyen ThiHuong and Pham Thi Ngoc Anh. 

Secretary Tuan was selected as Honourary President of the provincial association for the new term. 

On this occasion, the Vietnam Red Cross Society Central Committee presented the insignia "For the humanitarian cause" to 12 individuals; while the provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to six collectives and four individuals who had excellent achievements in association work and emulation movements. At the congress, leaders of the VRC Central Committee also gave 100 gifts worth 50 million VND to the provincial association./.
