President Tran Dai Quang
In his article entitled "Promoting the fighting spirit for
success of the 1968 Spring Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in
national renovation, construction and defense,” President Quang highlighted
the event as a milestone in Vietnamese people’s warfare art and powerful
staunchness of the people in the Ho Chi Minh era.
He said five decades after the historical victory, Vietnam
has recorded significant growth in the context of fast-changing world that
requires the whole Party, people and army to make greater efforts and turn
challenges into opportunities for comprehensive national development in
politics, economics, culture, social, national defence, security, and foreign
affairs.
Socio- economic development is put in the center, Party
building is pivotal, cultural and human building are seen as a spiritual
foundation, and national defence and security are crucial and regular.
The President stressed the need to build a transparent and
strong Party and political system, continue implementing strategic breakthroughs
to speed up economic restructuring in line with growth model reform and
increase the productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.
It is also essential to actively respond to climate change;
effectively manage natural resources; protect the environment; intensify
defence and security to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty,
and territorial integrity; maintain peace and stability; and raise the
country’s position and prestige in the region and the world, he wrote.
The great spirit and high determination to notch up victory
over the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968 has been and
will continue to strongly encourage the Party, people and army of Vietnam to
overcome difficulties and challenges while seizing new opportunities in order
to develop Vietnam into a modern, industrialised country, he said.
The State leader called for combined efforts to uphold the
spirit of patriotism, self-reliance, dynamism and creativity towards the goal
