(HBO) - Farmers in Hoa Binh province have made significant contributions to promoting sustainable agricultural development and new-style rural area building, resulting in the formation of large-scale and high-value production models and development of synchronous infrastructure systems.

Many households in Ho 1 hamlet of Ngoc Luong commune (Yen Thuy district) have invested in growing Dien pomelo which brings high economic values.

According to Dinh Thi Hoan, Secretary of Ho 1 hamlet’s Party, many effective production models have been formed in Ho 1 hamlet, while roads have been concreted and irrigation systems were upgraded.

In the 2018-2020, the hamlet mobilised over 710 million VND for building model new-style residential areas, including 640 million VND contributed by local residents. The hamlet no longer has poor households, becoming a typical rural residential area of the province.

Similar to Ho 1 hamlet, in recent years, hundreds of residential areas in Hoa Binh province have recorded remarkable changes. Members of the farmers' associations in the locality have actively donated their land and money to build community works and rural infrastructure, and contributed to implementing the new-style urban area building programme and responding to the building of model new-style residential areas and model gardens.

Accordingly, over 11.2 billion VND were mobilised in 2020, and 115,130 sq.m of land were donated for the works. Over 490km of inter-field roads, and 70 bridges and culverts were constructed and repaired, while nearly 910km of canal were dredged and upgraded.

Up to 326 models of farmers participating in activities to protect the environment, collect and treat waste, and plant flowers, have been maintained across the province.

According to Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Farmers’ Union Nguyen Thi Huong Hai, the farmers’ unions at all levels have paid attention to supporting local farmers in starting business, helping them change awareness and mindset of agricultural production, thus promoting the formation of value chain-based and hi-tech agriculture production models, and enhancing connection in production.

Many efficient production-linking models were established in Hoa Binh, including organic vegetable growing models in Luong Son and Tan Lac districts, organic farming model of citrus trees meeting VietGAP standards in Cao Phong district, chicken-breeding and fish-cage farm models in the districts of Lac Son, Lac Thuy, Luong Son and Da Bac, and Hoa Binh city, and pomelo growing models in Tan Lac and Yen Thuy districts.

Many collective economy models, groups of cooperatives, and production groups have been shaped to help each other in production. Local farmers have been also supported in approaching market information, building brands, and strengthening trade promotion activities.

Over 2.91 billion VND were added to the fund for supporting local farmers in 2020, lifting the total to 36.2 billion VND. Of the number, over 12.4 billion VND were disbursed in the year, benefiting 389 households.

Up to 54 vocational classes to provide planting and livestock breeding techniques for local farmers were organized, while over 2,000 members of the farmers'unions at all levels received apprenticeships and jobs with an per capita income of 3.5 - 6 million VND/month.

These practical activities have helped local farmers develop household economy, and generated jobs for rural labourers. The local agricultural production is shifting in the direction of increasing quality and forming large-scale production areas./.
