When the farming area and output of lemongrass in some wards and communes of Hoa Binh city exceeded the market demand in 2015, many local households had to harvest and burn the excess. With sharp thinking and a thirst for knowledge, Nguyen Thi Binh in Thong Nhat ward found a solution, creating an outlet for lemongrass. The Dao Hamlet Agriculture Cooperative was established, paving the way to poverty alleviation for local farmers.
Cao Phong district has carried out an array of measures to create stable jobs for local laborers. Bui Thi Du, a resident in Trang Tren hamlet, Hop Phong commune, recently engaged in a training course on raising free-range chickens. Thanks to the application of poultry caring and disease prevention techniques that she got from the course, Du is successful at increasing the number of the chicken flock to 100, which has brought about a big profit. Her family’s livelihood has therefore improved and become more stable.

This is an upgraded concrete road project with a length of 1.7km, and it wass completed 2 months ago. Previously, many trucks passed through the road from the commune center to the small hamlet for many years, so it was deteriorated. Now it has been expanded with the thick concrete and it is convenient for vehicles to travel and avoid each other, so the people are very excited.
Over the years, the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction has brought about comprehensive progress in all villages and communes with extreme difficult conditions across Cao Phong district. Together with the efficiency of the new-style rural area building programme, policies regarding sustainable poverty reduction have helped reduced the poverty rate by 3.58% annually, higher than the set target of 3% per year.
