In recent years, Women’s Union chapters in Hoa Binh province have paid attention to creating jobs and supporting women to start their businesses, especially for poor women and those in remote and ethnic minority areas.
We visited Houaphanh province in Laos for the first time in May 2023. During the trip, our Lao friend enthusiastically shared that there is a man named Phu Son Tham Ma Vi Say in the local Don village who has his origin from the Muong ethnic group and was the former Deputy Governor of Houaphanh.
As a first-tier hospital subordinate to the provincial Health Department, the General Hospital of Hoa Binh province has 804 staff members working at 44 departments and divisions. With 850 patient beds, it is currently the leading healthcare institution of the province. Over the recent past, a number of comprehensive measures have been carried out to improve the quality of public health care, said Director of the hospital Nguyen Hoang Dieu.

The total outstanding debt of this credit program has reached more than 685 billion VND with more than 17.2 thousand customers with outstanding debt.
In 10 months of 2023, 22,398 poor, near-poor households and policy beneficiaries in Hoa Binh province received preferential loans from the Bank for Social Policies. Disbursement for 13 credit programs, loan turnover reached more than 888.6 billion VND. Total outstanding policy credit debt in the province reaches 4,553.5 billion VND/125,890 outstanding customers.

Implementing Plan No. 25/KH-MTTQ-BQL, dated May 15, 2023 of the Fund Management Board "For the Poor" of Hoa Binh province on building the "For the Poor" fund 2023; Plan No. 48/KH-MTTQ-BQL, dated October 9, 2023 in response to the peak month "For the poor" in 2023, from October 28 to November 10, 2023, the fund collected the amount of 391,832. 118 VND from 42 supporting groups.

Thereby, it has been contributing to taking care of and promoting the role of the elderly in the community, especially for the elderly who belong to the poor households with especially difficult circumstances.
