Nguyen Phi Long, alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Hoa Binh Party Committee, on May 14 chaired a meeting of the provincial steering committee for its programme to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing for the poor. The session reviewed the programme’s outcomes to date and discussed forthcoming tasks.

Nguyen Phi Long, alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hoa Binh Party Committee, and head of the steering committee, delivers the concluding remarks.

According to a report by the provincial chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Hoa Binh has recorded 3,194 cases of makeshift or degraded housing. Of these, 2,417 homes are set for rebuild and 777 for repair. As of May 14, 2,149 new houses had been completed and handed over, with work underway on a further 184. Meanwhile, 613 homes had been repaired, with another 61 under renovation. A total of 103 households had opted out of repairs due to various personal circumstances.

Three localities – Luong Son, Lac Thuy districts and Hoa Binh city – have completed the programme. The remaining seven districts have committed to completion on schedule by the end of this May. All cities and districts have secured sufficient funding for the effort.

Support has been provided in accordance with set principles: each eligible household may receive up to 60 million VND (2,311 USD) for new construction or 30 million VND for repairs, funded through the provincial "For the Poor” Fund. Additional assistance in the form of labour and locally available building materials is contributed by local authorities, residents, and socio-political organisations.

The assistance process has been conducted transparently and in a manner that respects the customs, practices, and living conditions of beneficiary families, while also aligning with the cultural identities of local ethnic communities.

In his closing remarks, the provincial Party leader stressed that the housing programme had successfully mobilised resources from the community and broader society, helping to improve living standards for poor, near-poor, and policy-beneficiary households, as well as ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups.

He also called for its acceleration and urged localities to implement further housing support under two national target programmes targeting revolutionary contributors and families of fallen soldiers.
