A delegation from Hoa Binh province led by Colonel Trinh Duc Thiem, Commander of the provincial Military Command, completed a mission to visit and encourage officers and soldiers stationed on Truong Sa and a DK1 platform from May 20 to 26 as part of activities of the Vietnam People’s Navy. The delegation included 12 senior officials from various provincial agencies and units.

During the trip, the delegation, along with over 200 representatives from central and local agencies and businesses, visited and presented gifts to officers, soldiers, and residents on several key islands and a DK1 platform on the southern continental shelf of Vietnam. These included Song Tu Tay, Len Dao, Co Lin, Da Tay B, Truong Sa, Da Thi and Sinh Ton islands, and the DK1/16 Phuc Tan B Platform.

The Hoa Binh delegation joined others in organising a series of meaningful activities: offering incense at the memorial for the heroes and martyrs of Gac Ma; commemorating the officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the March 14, 1988 incident; paying their respects to President Ho Chi Minh at the memorial house; conducting flag raising and troop review on Truong Sa Lon Island; planting commemorative trees on various islands; and presenting practical gifts to motivate officers, soldiers, residents, and forces stationed on the islands.

During the mission, the delegation also met with and presented gifts to Hoa Binh-origin officers and soldiers serving on the islands. They visited and encouraged several island families. The total value of gifts presented reached 300 million VND (11,570 USD). In addition to provincial authorities' gifts, on behalf of the armed forces of Hoa Binh, Colonel Thiem handed over further gifts worth 100 million VND to officers, soldiers, residents, and schools on the islands and the DK1 platform. These funds were sourced from donations from the local armed forces to support those on Truong Sa.

Earlier, representing the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, along with residents of Hoa Binh, the delegation handed over 5 billion VND to the "Greening Truong Sa” programme, initiated by the Vietnam People’s Navy. All donations and gifts for officers, soldiers, and locals on Truong Sa and the DK1 platform came from the provincial budget and fundraising efforts from the local armed forces and residents over time.

This aims to give spiritual support to the Truong Sa troops and residents, as well as the offciers and soldiers performing duties on DK1 platforms, creating a powerful source of encouragement for them to overcome difficulties, unite firmly, and steadfastly hold their posts at the frontlines of the nation’s sea and island sovereignty - fulfilling the heavy but honourable responsibilities entrusted by the Party, State, and people.

With the motto "Truong Sa for the whole country, the whole country for Truong Sa,” the Hoa Binh delegation’s mission holds deep and practical significance, reinforcing the bond between the mainland and the islanders. It also offers timely encouragement to officers, soldiers, and residents on Truong Sa and DK1 platforms to overcome hardships, remain united, and complete their crucial duty of safeguarding the Fatherland's sacred sovereignty over seas and islands.
