The Hanoi government is planning to build four more bridges over the Red and Duong Rivers, with an estimated total cost of VND38 trillion (US$1.67 billion), in a move to reduce traffic congestion during rush hours.

Red lingzhi mushroom grown in Linh Dung organic farm

(HBO) – Lingzhi mushroom, a valuable medicinal herb, has been grown in some farms in Hoa Binh province, including the centre for scientific and technological application under the provincial Department of Science and Technology, and farms in Mong Hoa commune (Ky Son district) and Dong Tam commune (Lac Thuy district). Recently, Linh Dung organic farm in Dong Ngoai village, Vinh Tien commune (Kim Boi district) also cultivated the medicinal fungus on a trial basis. The farm has just harvested the first batch of lingzhi mushroom.

Success story of a man leaving city for crop farming

(HBO) – Being keen on gardening, Nguyen Van Thang, born in Hanoi’s outlying Ba Vi district in 1969, has been spending more than 20 years in Thung Rech, a rich soil area in Tu Son commune of Kim Boi district (Hoa Binh province). Between 1992 and 1997, he was known as "King of Sugarcane” in Thung Rech. He was the first to grow sugarcane in the area, leading to a mass cultivation that helped local people alleviate hunger and reduce poverty.

Veteran settles in Hoa Binh lake area

(HBO) – Responding to the appeal of the Party, Nguyen Van Chien from Dan Phuong district, former Ha Tay province, and other 100 local young people moved to work in the Hoa Binh lake area in Voi hamlet, Thai Thinh commune, the northern province of Hoa Binh, in 1978. Three years later, he decided to make a living from scratch in the locality. After 40 years, he built a big stilt house surrounded by 10-ha pomelo orchard which earns him hundreds of millions of Vietnam dong a year. However, Chien’s biggest asset is his strong will and great endeavours to surmount any difficulties he met.

Vietnam’s exports still going strong despite US protectionism

There are concerns that Vietnam’s exports to the US could be hurt by the growing US protectionism, its withdrawal from the TPP trade deal and Vietnam’s inclusion on a list of countries with which the US runs a trade deficit. However, thus far Vietnam’s exports to the US have remained strong.
